Out of sync

I've neglected this blog, again.

For some reason I'm not in the groove I was several months ago when I first started writing.

There's lots on my platter, much of it not getting done.  And what is getting done isn't completed with the quality I expect of myself.

I think that's part of my "out of the groove" issue.  I set my sights pretty high and miss the mark too often.

That's why I sometimes turn down requests to help with a committee or work on a project.  MY projects are going uncompleted.

Even this post has no real point. But I'll write it anyway.

Tuesday Tally - My Readers

It's interesting to check the stats on this blog check out the information provided by blogger.

Since I started blogging, back in January 2012, I'm pleased to say that I have had nearly 4000 pageviews. The breakdown goes like this:

Most of my readers come to me from Facebook, because I use third-party software to automatically post there each morning around 6:30 am.

The vast majority of my reader use Internet Explorer, with Mobile Safari (I think that's the iPhone); Firebox and Google Chrome following behind.

More readers checked out my "Summer Solstice" post than another other. I suspect that a Google Search for that phrase may have lead a few to the blog page.

I'm glad I decided to take it look at the stats.  It gave me a reason to keep writing for a few more days.

What I've learned about writing a blog

As I mentioned yesterday in my whine, er, I mean blog, I'm struggling to be back into a groove of having a posting ready at least a few hours ahead of my self-imposed 6:30 morning deadline. You'd think I was back at a newspaper and the presses were waiting for that last story.

Perhaps it's a flashback to the old days in my previous life of print publications.  When I first started that career, Tuesday was the big day, often creeping late into the night, for a Thursday publication day. It was a routine: paste up on Tuesday, printing and mailing on Wednesday, delivery on Thursday.

Years later, we were under a different deadline, because of scheduled press times. Tuesday was still our big day, but the layouts needed to be out the door by 4 pm for a journey to the pressroom an hour away.

I always said I work best with my head in a vise, but that usually ends poorly with mistakes that tic me off.

What I've learned about writing a blog is this:

• You gotta enjoy writing, in the style of your blog. Creative, Editorial or Technical styles take your pick. You still need to enjoy what you're doing.
• You need to possess the ability to write about anything. Thankfully the words often just flow off my fingertips.
• You should know a little bit about everything. Yes, being a know-it-all such as myself will make your blog much more successful.
• Have the ability to deal with a deadline, whether real or self induced.

Speaking of deadline, I'm just minutes away from needing this thing published today and I still need finish formatting.

What have I learned about blogging?  It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun!

Here I go... Naked or Not!

People start writing blogs for a menagerie of reasons.  For some it's an outlet, a sort of therapy. Others use the blog to connect family and friends.

Many blogs are single focused, perhaps looking at politics, sharing recipes or other causes dear to the writer's heart.

That focus for creating the blog gives the writer a foundation for their blog posts.

Me? I got nothing.

I only want to focus on writing again.

For some, writing comes very naturally. The words simply flow from the brain through the hands and fingers where rapid-fire movement on the keyboard creates a written piece that someone besides your mother wants to read.


I envy those who are create with great ease.  I tend to pour over each word, changing my thoughts and direction time and again until I convince myself to let it go. It's worthy of sharing with others.
