Time

Time flies when you're having fun.

Time stands still.

It was the time of our lives.

Time. We measure time with a clock and, obviously, a second is a second.

But doesn't it sometimes seem like time moves at different speeds?  How often have you been working on a project and suddenly wonder "where did the day go?"  Or you wake up on the last day of your vacation and think, "Really?  This is the end of this great time away?"

Time slips through our fingers quickly. The older I get, the quicker is seems to go.

As kids, we would say, "I can't wait until..."

Sometimes I wish we could, as a collective, grab onto something and slow our world down.  If even for a few minutes.

Time. While we all get an equal daily dose, there is really never enough.

Out of sync

I've neglected this blog, again.

For some reason I'm not in the groove I was several months ago when I first started writing.

There's lots on my platter, much of it not getting done.  And what is getting done isn't completed with the quality I expect of myself.

I think that's part of my "out of the groove" issue.  I set my sights pretty high and miss the mark too often.

That's why I sometimes turn down requests to help with a committee or work on a project.  MY projects are going uncompleted.

Even this post has no real point. But I'll write it anyway.

A little whine in the morning to get your day started.

24 is not enough

I have an unscientific theory, more commonly known as a hunch, that somehow the earth has started turning faster on its axis.  The result of this unnatural event is that an hour isn't an hour.  If my theory is correct, that would explain why there are not enough hours in the day.

Sounds logical, right?

I mean I get at nearly the same time each day and run my daily routine before I head off to work.  I'm in work mode for nine, sometimes ten hours. When I leave the office, it seems like my day is just beginning.

Meetings or social events, ambulance call and household chores, the list doesn't seem to end.

Part of the problem is that I can't seem to say no.  Volunteerism is a big part of my world, and from time to time I have to reevaluate what's going on because I'm just not doing a good job with anything.

A huge portion of my time is taken up by what is technically a second job: ambulance call.

My normal on-call times during a typical month go something like this:
  • One week of first call: 6 pm Friday to 6 am Monday, and 6 pm to 6 am Monday thru Thursday;
  • One weekend of second call: 6 pm Friday to 6 am Monday;
  • One weeknight of second call (when I'm not on first): Every Wednesday, 6 pm to 6 am.
I'll do that math for you, that's 204 hours a month... 51 average hours per week.

And, when those 204 hours are sped up, as in my theory, you're totally screwed.

I'm sure you'll agree, there are just not enough hours in a day.

Feast or Famine

Once the month of May arrives, it just seems like there are never enough hours in the day. Yard work, multiple meetings, camping and other travel or just going to the beach.

Tonight is one of the few nights I don't have a meeting, but I do need to work in the garden -- WATERING the tomatoes and pepper plants.  I'm actually at the point of adding an mini-irrigation system.  Thankfully this dry weather means the lawn doesn't need to be mowed.

The next few days of my life are almost scheduled with plans, albeit tentative, for down to the hour.

But that's how I get things down when I have a lot to do.  Plan, schedule execute.

Stop by the blog for the next few days and I'll tell you about some of the fun I have planned.

CHEERS!

Please Stand By

Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day and I wish I could put out the "Please Stand By" sign for a few hours to catch up.

Today is one of those days, after a week that included an unexpected trip to the University of Michigan Hospital Monday evening.

I didn't have a blog written for today, so this one, an "I don't have time to write a blog" stand-by post has been moved into Today's position.  You know I have to give all three of my follower something to read, regardless of how boring it may be.

So, now, here sit wishing I had more time to write something that at least interesting.  Alas, that's not happening today.

Sorry folks -- Please Stand By!
